Hello and welcome
The Lawns Hotel is the very first hotel in Lushoto and the Usambara Mountains that is still operational to this day. It is conveniently located at the entrance of the township, atop a hill overlooking the mountains. The gardens offer a beautiful selection of flowers and grass Lawns, to which the hotel was named after. It is surrounded by trees, giving you the feel that you are secluded in the mountains.
A brief history…
The hotel main building is over 100 years old and was originally built as a farmhouse by the Germans. Once the British took over occupation, it was then added on to and converted into The Lawns Hotel which was officially registered in 1946! The Hotel was no stranger to parties and events, our dining room was once used as a ballroom and cinema. This can be seen from the large room with high ceilings, the holes for the backdrop and projector room. While enjoying your meals, take a minute to imagine what it would have been like during that period.

Once Tanzania gained its independence in 1961, The Lawns Hotel was then part of the numerous properties that were nationalized. For more information on the recent history of the hotel, please see our “About us” page.
